PSAP Certification Process

Eligibility Requirements

Applicants must have a minimum of three (3) years of pump/pumping system experience and possess an undergraduate degree from an accredited university or college in a technical/business field.

In lieu of an undergraduate degree, applicants must possess direct industrial or commercial fluid transfer and pumping systems experience with five (5) or more years in a field/management position and have completed a minimum of seven (7) pump system assessments. After an application is accepted by HI, the candidate will be able to schedule an examination.

Certification Renewal

Once granted, the PSAP certification is valid for three years. In order to maintain certification, certified individuals must demonstrate compliance with certification renewal requirements during their three-year certification cycles. To qualify for renewal of your certification by PDUs rather than by re-examination, you must show evidence of ongoing pump system optimization (PSO) related professional development and work experience and achieve a minimum of 30 PDUs.

Note 1: Applicants must be an employee of a member or standards partner of HI in good standing at the time of their application to receive the member discount. No refunds will be granted for applicants joining HI after submission of certification application materials. The examination fee includes a $150 non-refundable application fee. If applicants and candidates request to discontinue the certification process, then HI will refund the examination fee minus the application fee.

Note 2: Re-examination fees apply to second and third attempts to pass the PSAP examination within the first year of submitting an approved application.

Note 3: The Renewal fee applies at the time a PSAP certified individual submits a recertification application.
