An icon of the Pump industry left us late in 2021.  By now, many of us have likely heard of the loss of Mr. George Harris, President and Founder of Hydro Inc.  Many may not know that, in addition to time with Hydro, George dedicated many years to helping HI grow and prosper.  He brought the same care and attention he gave to Hydro to the Hydraulic Institute and we are a better organization today because of it.

Elected President of Hydraulic Institute in 2014 and serving as Chairman from 2015-2017, George enabled a smooth leadership transition and a successful Centennial celebration.  And it was memorable: the biggest and best-attended HI Annual meeting ever.

Always a visionary, George quickly saw an opportunity for HI and led the board during his tenure to develop new programs to help the industry prepare for a then uncertain, regulatory future.  With regulations looming over the horizon, George pushed HI to develop a Pump Test Lab Approval Program to help promote industry compliance and led the board in funding what eventually became the PSAP certification program – now a respected credential among industry professionals.

Always thinking about how to add value and connect individuals, George helped steer HI through an increase in membership, programming and engagement.

He helped connect pumping to energy efficiency, opening up opportunities, ensuring the long-term viability of HI and helped connect with, and inspire, the next generation of industry leaders.

His contributions to HI’s programs reflected his visionary leadership style – always a step ahead.  His role as a mentor to many in the industry reflected is patience – always a moment to listen and patiently guide. His time with HI and many other organizations reflected his generous human spirit – always a hand out to help.

An important figure in the industry, a trusted leader of HI, and a true friend to many.  Mr. George Harris will truly be missed.
